‘Empathy’ is the song by Canadian electro-punk band Crystal Castles. Lyrics regard to the destructive character of the modern society which burdens people with the number of dehumanised rules and boundaries. According to the songwriter, the society demands its members to ‘earn’ the empathy and respect from others by following the ‘pretailored’, the same for everyone scheme, which favours the strong and wealthy ones, making everyone else work for their benefits. The song is about the control,
the illusion of the freedom, the struggle for perfection, about people breaking down in the apathy, trying to match the ideal by getting rid of their individual features.
